BACKGROUNDThe Pacific Health Systems and Policy Unit within the Division of Pacific Technical Support (DPS) assists countries in the region with the design and implementation of appropriate health policies and systems to strengthen universal health coverage. It focuses on building capacity for health systems innovation to enable the sustainable delivery of high-quality primary health and community services that are effectively linked to hospitals, public health and social services.At the outset of the COVID-19 pandemic, countries raced to update early warning systems coupled with contact tracing tools that could provide visibility on cases and contacts during COVID-19 community transmission. In the Pacific, countries transitioned primarily from paper and excel based systems to a wide variety of different off-the-shelf and custom-built contact tracing software.
