Description: BACKGROUNDThe COVID-19 pandemic continues as one of the major public health problems facing the countries and areas in the Pacific and the rest of the world, affecting health, society, and economies. Since the start of the COVID-19 pandemic, WHO has been working very closely with countries and areas and partners in the Pacific on public health measures to slow or stop the spread of the virus.Safe and effective vaccines are an important tool, in combination with other measures, to protect people against COVID-19, save lives and reduce wide scale social disruption. Since the middle of 2020, WHO with partners has been supporting countries and areas in the Pacific to plan and prepare for the COVID-19 vaccination services/campaigns and support the development of the National Deployment and Vaccination Plan (NDVP) and operational guidance documents including training for health workforces.The countries and areas in the Pacific started COVID-19 vaccination services in early 2021.
