Provide technical support the ‘Te Marae Ora Cook Islands Ministry of Health (TMO)- through strengthening surveillance for Non-Communicable Diseases (NCDs) to develop the Cook Islands STEPS report, using the STEPS survey results from 2022 in consultation with WHO. BACKGROUNDThe Division of Pacific Technical Support (DPS) and WHO Country Office Samoa (WHO CO WSM) provided country-level technical support in carrying out surveillance of the NCDs through the WHO Stepwise Approach (STEPS). It is a standardized method for collecting, analysing, and disseminating data on key NCD risk factors in countries.The STEPS survey covers key behavioural risk factors such as tobacco use, alcohol use, physical inactivity, unhealthy diet, as well as key biological risk factors: overweight and obesity, raised blood pressure, raised blood glucose, and abnormal blood lipids. The Cook Islands completed their first STEPS survey in 2004; second in 2015 and recently the third round in August 2022.The analysis of the 3rd STEPS survey results has been completed and tabulated in a data book ready to be used to draft the STEPS report.
